Bourbon Bacon Brussels
This dish will be the favorite at any fall, winter, or holiday celebration. It’s THAT good.
You'll Need:
4 strips bacon, diced
4 cups brussels sprouts, halved
1 sweet onion, diced
1 1/2 cups pecans, rough chopped
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon brown sugar
sprinkle cinnamon
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup bourbon (I recommend Maker's Mark)
1/3 cup brown sugar
First:
Toast the pecans in 1 tablespoon butter in a skillet
Add in brown sugar and cinnamon
Toss in butter for about 4 minutes
Remove from heat and set aside
Note: If you have some candied pecans on hand, swap them for the previous step! So good!
Next:
In a heavy bottomed skillet, brown the bacon
When crispy, remove from pan and set aside on paper towel lined plate
While pan is still warm:
Melt 1 tablespoon butter into the bacon fat
Pour in bourbon
Mix well
Add brown sugar
Mix well
Toss sprouts and onions in this mixture.
Let this sit for at least 30 minutes.
If you are making Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, do the previous steps the day before your dinner. Get to this step, place brussels, onions, and syrupy mixture, covered, in the refrigerator until ready to prepare for dinner.
Mix:
Bacon and pecans, into concoction and place in cast iron skillet, or oven safe dish.
Pop:
That all into a 400 degree oven for 35 minutes.
Stir once or twice.
Optional:
Top with some pomegranate seeds sprinkled with cinnamon! (So good with this combo!)
