Sausage Breakfast Gravy
Like my Grandpa taught me.
You’ll Need:
1 pound ground sausage (I like hot sausage)
4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 cup milk
3/4 cup half and half
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper (plus extra if you love pepper as much as I do)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon rubbed sage
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper (optional)
Brown:
Sausage over medium heat in a large skillet
Remove:
Cooked sausage from pan and set aside (but leave the drippings in the pan)
Melt:
Butter in same skillet over medium
Whisk:
In flour
Cook:
Over medium for 3 minutes, whisking constantly
Slowly:
Pour in milk, still whisking
Pour:
Half and half, keep on whisking
Add:
All seasonings, stilllllll whisking well
Whisk:
Some more for good measure, gravy should be thick and creamy
Add:
Sausage and stir well
Ladle:
Over hot, buttered biscuits
